bad credit
caitlin w asked:

Hello, I am 25 … in 15 days.. and I am a Junior in college, Civil Engineering but my credit is bad. I have two power bills I havent paid but are a few years old, a huge phone bill and medical bill and a few paid over due statements. The medical and phone bill are almost seven years old and so soon I am hoping I can have them removed, but I am wondering if it makes a difference the account has switched between collection agencies? There was also an incident where my credit was mixed up with another girl with same name and birthday and should be sorted out now. I sort of just need someone to sort all this out for me and tell me how I can get the best possible score, and to begin raising my score. Any advice is soo appreciated. Thank you.
Where can I get all three credit reports free at once all together?

  1. First things first, sweetie. Take a deep breath and realize that it’s going to be ok. It’ managable. Now, you need to get copies of your credit reports. There are three major credit reporting organizations. You need them all. Now, once you’ve got those you need to go through them one by one and make sure everything is accurate. Once you do that you need to start paying off your bills. You can make arrangements. Good luck.

  2. Depending on what state that you are in you can request a copy of all 3 reports and go through yourself online and dispute the error and the credit bureau will contact the creditor. If you go to a credit management, creditor consider that as bad as bankruptcy, only because you had to have someone help you manage your credit. You will learn so much more about your credit if you request and dispute it yourself ,

Start with one bill (smallest) and call the creditor and request that they settle for less if it is really old they would be happy to take 30% of the debt.
Whatever you do get the settlement in writing and document everyone you talk to, ext, and date & time. I am going through the same thing right now and I have cleared up 5 debts by calling and settling since Feb 07. Focus on one to clear up at a time, you will get so much further, any more than that at a time you will become overwhelmed and give up!! Hope this advice helps its working for me.

  3. You need a copy of your credit report. Go through the Federal Trace Commissions website (www.ftc.gov)/ It’s no charge, you don’t need to sign up for anything and you are entitled to one free report each year.

If you credit and someone else’s has become a mixed file, you need to document this and file a letter of same with the three Credit Reporting Agencies (Equifax, TransUnion, Experian). You can have errors corrected, you can’t get your own credit wiped clean. Anyone who tries to tell you that you can “re-create” the facts of past credit sins is a lying bastard.

Good luck. Pay your bills, the real world requires this unless you like high interest and constant struggles.

  5. Anybody can have a bad credit record. Mistakes do happen. But what we should do is not to repeat the mistakes.

Follow the same advice when it comes to loans. If you have a bad credit history, then go for a bad credit loan. It is a feasible loan option to let you fulfill your financial goals. A bad credit history can include arrears, defaults, bankruptcies, County Court Judgments etc.

Usually, adverse credit loans are given as …

  6. Try your bank to get a consolidation loan.

And you may meet a law student with your papers to see what you need to pay and what you have to pay.

    Good luck !
